Declutter Your Home With Purpose

If you are going to spend a lot of time at home over the next few weeks, you will likely see flaws and imperfections which you never noticed before. You may start to feel as though your home isn’t big enough for your needs.

At Williams of Petersfield, we are pleased to say we have helped many vendors stage and present their home. A lot of the most important work in staging a property relates to decluttering the home. By decluttering, you create space, and this may help you feel more positively bout your surroundings.

While decluttering a home is a massive part of the sales process, you don’t need to be selling your home to benefit from decluttering. We are happy to help, and if you want to declutter your home with purpose, we are here to assist you.

Set goals with what you want to achieve

No matter what task or project you are doing, if you set goals, you will have a greater degree of motivation to finish the task. Therefore, review your house and make a note of changes you can make around the home. You may be surprised at how much clutter you need to remove from your home!

Create a plan of action

A decluttering process which works for one person may not work for another. So, think about how you like to work, and what helps you achieve more. Some people like to focus on clearing one room at a time, while others prefer to focus on a single task.

There isn’t one single method which will ensure your home looks great, so think about what works best for you, and develop a plan with this in mind.

Also, think about what equipment will help you during the process. If you have everything at hand, the process will run more smoothly.

Set deadlines

Many of us work more effectively when we have a deadline in place. You might feel as though you have a lot of spare time, but this approach isn’t going to help you meet deadlines. So, impose strict deadlines on when you need to complete certain tasks.

Plan how you will sort

A lot of people find decluttering difficult. The thought of throwing items away can be challenging, so give yourself more options. If you are unsure as to whether you should keep an item, create a “maybe” pile. If you don’t use an item from the maybe pile in a month or two, you should seriously consider removing it from your home.

Of course, you don’t need to throw items away. You can sell items, you can pass them on, and you can gift them to charity. Right now, many charity shops are closed, so you may have limited options in removing options, but look online for local community groups who may benefit from items you no longer need.

We appreciate this is a challenging time, but at Williams of Petersfield, we are here to assist you as best we can. If you are looking for any guidance or advice from a local agent, please get in touch with us today.
