Are You Ready To Work From Home?

Right now, a significant number of people around the country are preparing themselves to work from home. There is a growing number of people who work from home, and there are many more who are keen to swell these ranks.

However, with an enforced period of working from home, a lot of people are going to realise that remote working isn’t as easy or as straightforward as they may have previously thought. It is essential people prepare themselves, and their home, for this challenge, and we can help.

At Williams of Petersfield, we are pleased to say we have helped many homeowners prepare their home before placing it on the marketplace. This isn’t quite the same, but we can advise you on how to think about setting up a workstation, and we have learned a thing or two about working remotely over the years.

Try to stick to a routine as best you can

While this is an extraordinary time, it will help if you can retain as much normality as possible. Therefore, there is a great deal to be said for going to bed at your normal time, waking up at your usual time, and sticking to a schedule.

With a routine in place, you will continue working as best you can, and it should help you separate work and home life.

Try to set up a designated working space

If you don’t have a lot of space at home, or a few people are working from home, it may be difficult to find a space where you can work. However, it is important that you do. Having an area where you only work helps you to switch off when it is time to relax and unwind.

Also, try and set up and a comfortable area where you can work from home. You may think lazing in bed with your laptop on your knees is conducive to good work, but it isn’t the case. Recreating your working environment as best you can will help you to focus on the task at hand.

Try to check in with colleagues when you work from home

Whether you are home alone or you have a busy house, it helps to stay in touch with people outside of your home. If you regularly chat with colleagues or take breaks together, try to arrange a time where you can replicate this at home.

Hugo Mortimer-Harvey works remotely and he spoke to the BBC, saying; “More and more people hide behind email rather than pick up the phone and talk to colleagues and contacts. When you spend the day working on your own, actually calling people and having a conversation can be much more stimulating and indeed productive than a chain of emails.”

The more you can create a positive working environment in your house, the more productive you will be.

At Williams of Petersfield, we know people are looking for help and guidance right now. If you have any questions about the housing market, or how you can improve your home, please get in touch with us today.
